SUMMER ESCAPES
Our Book Group is always searching for great reads and I’m happy to pass on some book recommendations that the Group loved.  These might just elevate your summertime!

Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton – thrilling battle of ethics, set in New Zealand

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett – exploring identities and family relationships

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett – hostages and kidnappers trapped together in a South American mansion

A Man called Ove by Fredrik Backman – A Swedish neighbourhood embraces proud but lonely Ove

A novel dilemma
‘Men don’t read novels’ has been the publishers dilemma for some time.  However, there are signs of change, men are enjoying fiction again, even some ‘men only’ book clubs. I host “Books & Banter”, on second Thursday of the month between 5-6pm on Zoom.  It is a mixed monthly group discussing books of all types.  Any men in Redbridge u3a who would like to revive (or start!) their reading life, and women too of course, are most welcome.
