After the AGM on 23rd February 2026, our committee looks as follows:
OFFICERS:

Stuart Wallman, Chair
My name is Stuart Wallman and I am into my second year as chair after having been joint Treasurer for two years. I previously served as Membership Secretary on a previous committee.
I also am a group leader of three groups - Sports/Science and Ethics - as well as administering Zoom, so I keep pretty busy.

Maureen Nieberg, Vice Chair & London Region Repesentative
My name is Maureen Nieberg and together with my husband Maurice I joined the u3a many years ago when we retired. Over the years we have met lots of new people, made many, many good friends and attended numerous interesting groups.
When we became members we wanted to join the history group, but unfortunately this was full - so ‘in the spirit’ of u3a we decided to open our own history group which has been tremendously successful to this day. I now also run 2 rummikub groups which are full and enjoyed by those who attend. Since February 2025, when Stuart Wallman became Chair, I have taken on the role of Vice Chair and together with the extremely hard working and dedicated Committee we hope our u3a will go from strength to strength.

Elaine Mitchell, Treasurer
I worked for 23 years in my last job as a PA in a City accountancy firm. When I retired in 2019 a friend suggested I join Redbridge & District u3a. After a while I joined the Committee as Membership Secretary which I really enjoyed. After three years as chair, I am now in my second year as Treasurer, not sure how this happened but I really enjoy our u3a and hope our members feel the same. The groups I belong to and the people I have met have had a wonderful impact on my life.

Lynda Ingram, Secretary & Membership Secretary
Hello. My name is Lynda and I am the current secretary and membership secretary of this u3a. Having worked for many years in a busy property department of a large firm of solicitors, I finally retired in the summer of 2021. I now needed something to occupy my days and the u3a fulfilled that requirement very quickly. I soon joined in with some of the groups and mixed with new people who have now become friends. My involvement with the u3a led me to become a member of the committee and I do very much enjoy meeting new and old members. I would recommend our u3a to everyone who has retired and wants to meet new people and enjoy other interests.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

Maurice Nieberg
Hi. My name is Maurice Nieberg and together with my wife Maureen, I have been a member of u3a for over 10 years. When we both retired we were suddenly faced with a whole new way of life which can be quite daunting when you have worked for 50 years non-stop. Then we were introduced to Redbridge u3a and have never looked back. During that time we joined many of the groups on offer, such as discussion, psychology, sports, ethics, and various music groups. When we wanted to join a history group we found they were aleady full with waiting lists, so we decided to start our own. This has gone from strength to strength over many years and is still extremely popular with our members.
Maureen now runs 2 rummikub groups and we facilitate a knit and natter group on behalf of Maureen’s sister. During our time at the u3a we have met some really lovely people and made many new friends.
That old adage is definitely true that you get out what you put in!!

Barry Shamplin, Speakers Organiser
My name is Barry Shamplin, and I run the Redbridge & District u3a Politics & Current Affairs Discussion Group.
I am also part of your Committee, and am responsible for researching and booking Speakers for our monthly Open Meetings in Wanstead Library. Recently we’ve been listening to some great talks, and consequently high numbers of members have been attending. There is time to socialise before and after, so I hope to see you soon. If you know a speaker you would like to recommend, please contact me (however we are booked about a year ahead at present).
