Our first coach trip this season will take us to St Ives and Ely. NOTE THE DATE AND PRICE CHANGE.
St Ives is a medieval market town in Cambridgeshire. It is located on the River Great Ouse, and there is a historic stone bridge dating from 1425. The bridge has an unusual chapel incorporated into the structure. The nearby Quayside offers pleasing views of the river and the bridge. Oliver Cromwell lived in St Ives from 1631 to 1636, and a statue of him was erected on Market Hill in 1901. The Norris Museum holds a collection on local history.
The cathedral city of Ely is one of the smallest cities in England. Oliver Cromwell lived here as well, from 1636 to 1646, and his family home is open to the public. Ely also houses the only museum dedicated to stained glass in the UK - now located inside Ely Cathedral. In the old city gaol is Ely Museum, which tells the story of Ely and the surrounding Fens from pre-historic times to the present day.
