This presentation from Jane Ashcroft provides a factual and practical overview of housing, care and support options
As we get older, there are more choices than simply staying at home or moving into a care home. This presentation provides a factual and practical overview of the options, including ageing in place, co housing, services at home, retirement villages, extra care and care homes, and considers the different housing, tenure and financial models available. It will explore what we know — and sometimes assume — about these options, where to find reliable information, and the role of regulators and consumer feedback. Most importantly, it will consider how we can identify our own needs and preferences and make informed choices for the future, before a decision becomes urgent.
Biography
Jane Ashcroft CBE has spent her career working to improve care and support for people in later life, including 13years as Chief Executive of Anchor, England’s largest provider of specialist housing and care for older people. Jane has also been closely involved in national debates and policy development. Now Chair of Helping Hands Home Care, and Chair of Good Gym, (a national charity whose volunteers combine exercise with helping people and communities). She also coaches and supports senior executives. Jane is interested in inter generational relationships and active ageing. As she and her husband have started a project to build their own “downsize” home, she is working through many of the choices and issues she will cover in her presentation.
